The Philippines-China Friendship Club (PCFC) successfully organized a leadership training for its founding members on September 22, 2013 at Book Heaven Café. The training was privileged to have Mr. Ramil Cueto, Director and Principal Consultant of Concept to Competence, as the professional trainer.
The training provided the participants guided reflections to discover each of their objectives, challenges, and opportunities in China as an individual and as a member of an organization. It was clear from the collective feedback that everyone acknowledged the benefits to be gained from an organization such as the PCFC.
According to the survey, a variety of goals is present among the Pinoys here in Beijing beyond the academic objectives, such as personal development in terms of career growth, social development, and the experience of independence before joining the family businesses back home. On the contrary, the challenges also share commonalities, namely: lack of confidence, self-awareness, Chinese fluency and understanding of its ancient culture, weather, family responsibilities, socializing and so forth.
Mr. Cueto emphasized the significance of the benefits the club can provide for the members, officers, the newcomers and Phil-China relations is important and advised the group to internalize the maxim: “charity begins at home”. It is only by making the club relevant to its members can it be successful.
This led to another question: What or how would the upcoming members be able to support the club’s mission, events and growth? Because only by contributing one’s time, ideas, leadership skills, efforts and resources can the club and the Pinoys benefit and prosper.
True, there will be difficulties and frustrations in every step we take, but nothing worth doing in life is ever easy.
Austin Ong, Charles Lim, Hamilton Balonan , Renee Lo, Lester Lee, Paige Yu and Marc Dominic Lim attended. A working draft to represent the mission-vision and future plans of PCFC will be forthcoming.
